Chapter 1 - Sophie Questions

a) What do the pronouns (I, my) indicate about what point of view the chapter is written in?

The pronouns indicate that the chapter was written in first person in the point of view of the character Sophie.

b) The verbs indicate that the chapter is written in past tense. When Sophie says that "at the time [she] had only a hazy idea of why I was there", what does this tell the reader about the point of time from which she is narrating?

This tells the reader that the point of time that the character is narrating is the future as she is referring to the event that is taking place as if it happened already. This can been seen when she uses words like 'had' and 'was'.

Presentations of women in current TV shows

The Big Bang Theory-

The only women featured in the show 'The Big Bang Theory' are the girlfriends of the main 4 featured men. But even though the character 'Penny' is kind of a stereotypical girl, The other women (Bernadette  and Amy) are smart and most times very different from the stereotypical women.

Penny is very stereotypical. She has blonde hair and is very pretty, wears pink a lot, and is shown to be ditzy and stupid. She is always dating men who are bad for her and can be mean at times, but most people shrug this off because she is pretty. Bernadette and Amy on the other hand are very smart, strong, independent women. Bernadette is still considered pretty but Amy is shown as not very pretty, but she still has a lot of self confidence and doesn't care what people think.

Little Red Cap Analisys

   1.  Who was punished? Why are they punished? What does this say about males?

The character in Little Red Cap that was punished was the Wolf because he tried to eat the grandmother and Red Riding Cap herself. This says that males are a big threat to young girls and that girls can be defenceless against them.

   2.  Who is rewarded? Why are they rewarded? What does this say about females?

Little Red Cap and grandmother are rewarded because they are saved from the wolves stomach and get to live. Red Cap was rewarded because she was saved by the Huntsman just in time and also because she promises afterwards never walk off the path ever again and to always obey her mother. This says that females will get rewarded in the end if they do as they are told and stay obedient.

   3.  What is the role of men in this fairytale? What does this say about male's attitudes and personality? What does it say about the power of men?

There are two men in the fairytale. Their is the Wolf and the Huntsman. The Wolf is the character that try's to eat the Grandmother and Little Red Cap, and the Huntsman is the character that saves them from him. This story makes out that the personalities of men (according to the wolf) are that they shouldn't be fully trusted and that they can be in some instances very dangerous, but and the same time (according the the Huntsman) you need them as well because they are the ones who save you. This is making men seem very powerful and dominant as they seem to be able to both hurt women greatly, but then save their lives.

Extended Response on Snow White Queen

The Queen in Snow White and the Huntsmen is very beautiful and looks around late 20's(ish), even though the character is actually very old. She is in a position of extreme power as she is the Queen. Her character, throughout the whole film, try's to hunt down Snow White and take her heart. Her personal characteristics are that she is very jealous of Snow White and is considered pure evil. In the middle of the film, Snow White is killed by the evil Queen by a poisoned apple, but Snow White awakens near the end by the Huntsman kissing her. She then goes off to fight the Queen and reclaim her kingdom. The male's reactions in the story towards the Queen are that they think she is very beautiful, but at the same time know that she is evil. The females in the story just hate her and think that she is awful. In the end, the Queen is punished because she threatened to kill Snow White and took the lives and beauty of countless other young men and women. She dies when Snow White stabs her in the heart.
